Dabex XR - Used for: Treating type 2 diabetes. It is used along with diet and exercise. It may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines. Dabex XR is a biguanide antidiabetic. It works by decreasing the amount of sugar that the liver produces and the intestines absorb. It also helps to make your body more sensitive to the insulin that you naturally produce. Dabex XR is an oral antihyperglycemic agent that improves glucose tolerance in patients with NIDDM, lowering both basal and postprandial plasma glucose.

Dabex XR is not chemically or pharmacologically related to any other class of oral antihyperglycemic agents. Unlike sulfonylureas, Dabex XR does not produce hypoglycemia in either patients with NIDDM or healthy subjects and does not cause hyperinsulinemia. Dabex XR does not affect insulin secretion.
